Before I jump into the description, I'd like to apologize for the shortness of this video. I had originally made a much longer one, including parts from riding the cupola and back porch of the caboose, but Youtube wouldn't let me upload it. Now that it is a month later, I have finally gotten a video short enough for Youtube to accept. In the next few days, I will try to upload short clips from other parts of the videos, and see how it goes, so keep an eye out for those!
Also, please excuse the shakiness, as I was not able to set up the tripod on the porch of the caboose.

----------------------------------
Please watch in 720p HD!

On a wet December 12, I was lucky enough to be given the chance to help out on this year's Toys For Tots Train. After boarding at Berkshire Valley Road and traveling rather slowly down the Morristown & Erie High Bridge Branch, we finally reach the runaround at Flanders (west of Route 206). Here, from the rear porch of SOO caboose 100, we see Norfolk Southern GP40-2 3010 running around our train. We will then head back East to pickup points at Flanders and Ledgewood, where I got off the train. It was a great experience, and it felt great to collect thousands of toys for less fortunate children.

Enjoy!

  • @ns3010 No, I'm not sure which one it was.

  • @GenesisSanctuary Hmm, interesting. Do you know which FL9 it was?

  • @ns3010 Who knows. I guess Morristown & Erie was too lazy to just send 18 or 19 down to clear the way. It didn't even make sense for them to have both the ALCOs on the Santa Claus Train since there was already a Maine Eastern F unit on one end.

  • @GenesisSanctuary Yeah, there is occasionally a shipment to the Kenvil Team Track.

Although I'm still not sure why they left it on the main instead of spotting it at the Team Track in the first place...

  • @ns3010 It really is a shame that the HBB pretty much has no active customers at this time. If only Toys R Us weren't so picky with what type of boxcar they want their goods shipped in. I think the only possible customer left on the HBB right now is right where that centerbeam was left in the way.

  • @GenesisSanctuary Yes, it is rather ironic. The tracks on the HBB aren't too bad, but the growth is pretty bad. A week before the train ran, they sent a crew out to clear fallen trees off the tracks. And during the ride, we had to keep closing the cupola window because the branches kept coming in!

The D&R is usually switched twice a week, Tuesday early afternoons and Friday mornings.

  • @ns3010 I see. I find it kind of amusing that the tracks of the High Bridge Branch, which is pretty much only used once a year, are in much better condition than the tracks of the Dover Rockaway Branch, which is used weekly.

  • @GenesisSanctuary Thanks, and yes, this was west of Route 206, almost to the Toys R Us warehouse. In the very beginning of the video, 3010 is almost at the Bartley Road crossing.

  • Nice! How far from the Flander drop off point was this siding? Was it almost at the Toys R Us plant?
