General Electric Aviation Lecture

An Evening with Test Pilot Robert K. Smyth
Thursday, October 25, 2007

Former test pilot Robert K. Smyth will keep the audience on the edge of their seats with compelling stories from his career testing numerous cutting-edge aircraft.

In 1970, Smyth and fellow test pilot Bill Miller performed the first flight of the F-14A Tomcat, and later became the first crew to eject from an F-14!

Smyth began his career as a test pilot in the U.S. Navy and later accepted a position with Grumman Aerospace, where he flight-tested the F9F Cougar and F11F Tiger series. He served as a consulting pilot and astronaut liaison on the Apollo Lunar Module program, and later, while working for Gulfstream, he participated in the Gulfstream III and IV record-setting flights.

Smyth was inducted into the Carrier Test Pilots Hall of Honor in 1991.
