How easy is it to kill in battle? War footage and Hollywood-style dramatisations of battle abound, showing men killing each other. But what is it really like to take someone's life? Most young men are sure that if it came down to it they could kill for their country. But when British comedian and journalist Grub Smith hears about shocking research that seems to turn accepted thinking on its head, he decides to investigate. To find out the truth, he undergoes infantry training and meets leading military and academic experts.

  • It's unfortunate that people have to die.. but it's fortunate that we go through instances like these to prepare us for the inevitability of someone invading our countries.

  • Interesting thing to ponder though is the ability to kill when you have soldiers that have been thoroughly indoctrinated and trained to become "elite" soldiers.

Thinking of all the scary troops like SS or the French Foreign Legion, do you think that they were more willing to shoot, unlike the conscripts of WW1 and WW2?

Also, what of ancient warriors or Roman soldiers? Were they more willing or able to kill someone up close? Or a horseman charging and trampling people underfoot?

  • @marko9900 This is not the solution to controling the growing population. I am sorry but you sound so heartless. I lived war 4 10 yrs. Not a single day went by without seeing death and I have never lost my humanity to take another life.... I wonder if your words will ring in your ears when it hits home!

  • @MrKillien well, we have a problem of overpopulation. althoug it is a bad soultion to it, it still is a solution, that to some degree killing must stay.

  • @marko9900 where is the solution in that if the killing continues?

  • Fucking creepy how they reenacted that brain in a helmet with steam coming off it.

Didn't anybody step in and say hey this is kinda disrespectful to the guy we just interviewed.

  • so after thousands of years we've learnt how to turn men into robots that still end up insane with PTSD after all the killing? well if that's progress???

  • @DutchPetriot maybe.... but what i do get i don't like....

  • @pipobun you still dont get it do ya

  • military men deserve respect only if they oppose war after they had been to one...
