Not only did Nena's "99 Luftballons" come out in 1983, so did Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Two Tribes." 1983 was also the year "War Games" was released. That dealt with accidental nuclear war as well. "The Day After" was a 1983 movie about nuclear war.

@MrJacMac1986 Yeah I remember that very well. When I was in school in the early 80's I remember this girl who sat next to me out of the blue said to me "Did you know that there could be a nuclear war any minute?" I went to bed many nights wondering what would happen.....

@ashland1977 I Remember in the movieThreads the narrator said that the Soviets would attack about 3am eastern time in the US where I live because thats when they thought reaction time would be slowest.A lot of people would die in their pajamas or in the nude however they perfered to sleep. If like the movie the world was in that situation, I would have slept with my clothes on.

@lsnows Couldnt agree more. Know the song and remember how scary the 1980s were. Lying awake at night wondering what the hell might happen.
This is downright nightmarish! Anyone ever heard the song 99 Luftbaloons? You should if you've watched this documentary in full. I think Nena would have soiled her sexy-tight little leather pants had she known that what she was singing about NEARLY came true, namely a nuclear holocaust as a result of the two great powers nuking each other by mistake!
