Roufus vs Kietsongrit Round One

I tend to think Kiatsongrit fought a very smart fight. He used the one Muay Thai Technique they didnt take from him and dominated the fight. He knew after the first round that roufus was very dangerous with his hands. He did what he had to to secure victory with very little danger for himself. IF he had tried to mix it up the risk of a flash knockout by Roufus goes up dramatically. Kiatsongrit fought just the fight he needed to to ensure victory while remaining basically untouchable.

@aa3gunner the only great fighter that got his bell rung and dropped on his ass not once but twice in the first round. your a fool if u think only the asians are great fighters... peter smith? raymond dekker? rob kaman? your a friggin tool.

@dunavinagain please... the Thai couldn't use clinch wrestling, knees, or elbows. In a free for all match, Kietsongrit would've murdered him. The Thai is the only great fighter here.

@aa3gunner what the hell are you talking about? Roufus was kicking that thais ass, dropped him twice and almost finished him off. So what, he got his leg busted up... thais lose that way all the time. They were both great fighters and the thai finished on top. I'm sick of this American bashing when it comes to fighting. We have had soooo many of the worlds best fighters. It's just ridiculous. Yeah we were a little narrow minded as far as style, but so were the thais and the japanese!

Incredible fight!
Roufus is amazing with lightning kicks and punchs and after the two very neat knockdowns could have deserved victory... But Kietsongrit recovers and shows incredible strength.
In the same time, Roufus is getting kicked twice very hard in the right leg and he will not recover from that. Can't imagine the pain he is taking during next three punishment rounds, and that deserves respect.
Seems to me a logical victory of the toughest and most experienced of both men and styles.

@kicksboxes I didn't say MMA. I said UFC - referring directly to your initial comment which referenced UFC. I'm well aware of pankration.
These ignorant Americans are always belittling Asians. Rick opened up a Muay Thai school soon after this match. Hahaha

That is why this is such an important fight. It helps show the evolution of Combat Sports in the United States (and in the World.) While Rick and Duke Rufus where initially ignorant of the Thai style of fighting , they later learned from their mistakes and became devout practitioners of leg-level kicks. The American referee/commentators where also definitely 'ethnocentric', however please remember that it was the 'melting pot' mentality of the U.S. that later made the UFC style fights possible.

@kicksboxes Actually, it was south america that is responsible for the UFC. More specifically, Brazil, with Vale Tudo. Don't make excuses for the rufus brothers, they were a couple of absolute twats. If all they took away from thai boxing was "leg kicks are good" then they're still as moronic as they appeared at this time.

@ephasm
Or maybe MMA started with the Colosseum in ancient Rome… but you see where this argument is going.
Actually, he Rufus brothers took a lot more away from this fight than “leg kicks are good.’ They learned a whole new system of combat and a lot about themselves as well. (Duke actually learned to embrace Thai culture and fighting.) I didn’t post this fight to belittle them, only to show how far we all have come.

In recent weeks pro-democracy protests have turned violent in Bangkok. Our thoughts of peace and safety go out to all of our Thai Brothers and Sisters as we hope for a peaceful resolution to the situation there.
Let us fight only in the ring and live to promote respect, freedom, and happiness for our world.

Perhaps, but watch the rest of this fight carefully. Kietsongrit only uses his right roundhouse kick throughout the match. Few punches and hardly any other kicks. Even without elbows or knees, this fight would have been stopped much sooner if he would have mixed his techniques a bit.
Respectfully,
Rick
