Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...

Q: My new band seems to have all the same problems as my old bands have had - we can't seem to balance our parts. I've always read that good accompaniment comes from "hearing," your fellow band members. But, what are the standard elements that band-mates should be all working together on that will end up really reaching an audience?
Ken -- Ellenton, FL. United States

A: Whether you're just jamming at a rehearsal, or you're up on stage, band dynamics (and all of the details of how each band member will accompany the other in the group), will play a significant role in how well the band will eventually evolve as a tight musical unit. The first step is for each band member to work at improving their listening skills. If everyone in the band isn't listening to each other, it will be very difficult or even impossible to improve the band as a unit. And, there are a number of important listening tips and back-up basics that I can help you with, so watch the video and spend time applying the ideas presented with your band.

  • The internet is full of people who don't love themselves leaving hateful anonymous comments. I have been playing guitar for 30 years and I find Andrew's videos insanely useful for offering new insights and reviewing fundamentals. I just hope my brother has the good sense to see the knuckleheaded comments for what they are... Keep up the good work boss !!
