Eugene Chadbourne (1954-) is a guitarist, banjoist and improvisor from Mount Vernon, NY. He was influenced by Captain Beefheart & Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention in his youth. He started out playing rock and roll, but soon began exploring blues, country, bluegrass and free jazz. He led the group Shockabilly from 1982-1985 recording four albums. As a sideman he has recorded with such acts/artists as They Might Be Giants, Fred Frith, Camper Van Beethoven, Jello Biafra, Carla Bley and Jimmy Carl Black. He invented the "guitar rake", by attaching a guitar pickup to a garden rake. He is also a critic for the All Music Guide. He has resided in Greensboro, NC. since 1981.
