An interesting line in the Petroff is
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Nxe4 d6
4. Nxf7!?
I think the two pawns, superior centre and the black king caught in the centre is worth the knight. Normally I'd play d4, f4, Nc3, Bc4

I also love this line for white. I dont think black has equalized when you said he has. MUCH better then rhe1 is rde1!...an important possibility for white is a kingside pawn storm, (yes, even though queens are traded) using g pawn for nf5 outpost-dont underestimate how easily 2 rooks and a peice can force mate, you chuckled a little too much at his (granted weak) attempt. Another way to secure an advantage is with blacks weak queenside, by putting a bishop on f3 and pushing your d and a pawns.

im also a great expert on this line and know it quite well. Its one of the few ways white can actually secure an advantage against the petroff in my unusual opinion, but he needs very good technique to convert the whole point. i do NOT think black has equalized when you said
