I fall in love with my strat's glossy maple neck everytime I play it (:

@punkiassjunki maple is a medium to hard wood..roswood is more heavier harder and denser than maple. but eastern maple is much harder than western maple due to the colder winters and shorter growing seasons. a super hardwood is hickory . makes maple rosewood and ebony feel like softwood. and never seen a hickory fretbaord myself.

@sasdori01 pau ferro is nice as well same tone as maple and not coating and just a hard with very tight grain. indian rosewood has a tighter grain i think than some other rosewoods. me i like both. as long as the maple is not coated in gloss like new 2008 usa fenders. just dont like the feel myself. satin ok .
-
@UKToneKing you should check out the 2008 usa strat. the gloss laquer is to much. to glossy for me. i tried one and it was bad to much coating. maybe i am use to satin on maple but i like indian rosewood it looks great that slab on the maple neck and easy to work on as well. no masking when you polish frets and easy to manage. and off cause about £70 less for a fret job.

@UKToneKing rosewoods ok as it has the natrual oils in it. same as pay ferro fretbaord it dont need a finsh. pau ferro same as maple hard rock and bright. maple needs a coating i think. but you can use tru oil on the fretboard. i am build a another strat and getting a warmoth maple quartersawn back and indian rosewood neck with 6150 frets i do the back myself. only neck i no is mighty mite maple neck there satin coat is so thin , you think its not coated.

@who8allthepies they say unfinished maple warps ect, but it's not the case on my mates strat, also music man has an unfinished maple, but it has 2 rods in the neck to combat warp ect
-
@who8allthepies I am a rosewood type of guy, I have tried maple and my strat plus is maple, but I can never seem to get away with it, if it had nothing on the fret board and just had the bare wood like rosewood I think I would love that as much as rosewood then, but why they don't do that I do not know, I have played one of my friends custom shop strats that is birds eye maple and it has no coating on, it plays like my rosewood necks,
-
@UKToneKing i find the satin laquer much better also some people us tru oil on neck give a better finish and not sticky . one thing i really hate gloss on the back of necks . also i like both maple and rosewood .
-
@UKToneKing i for one hate the new maple strat necks on the 2008 usa standards. its to glossy i prefer the satin laquer on the strat maple neck before 2008. the gloss laquer on the 2008 it thick and just to glossy for my liking.

There's no "better" one ... there's two choices only so that there will be an endless debate over what is better until the end of time.

Don't mess with other's opinion, choose the one which is most comfortable for You... If Your feel is OK, You will be stimulated and the sound will come :)

Hello Adam,
The touch of different woods has for sure some influence, but I don't think I was clever enough to change my poor picking style :), I mean there are a lot of players with their own specific sound (indifferent of gear), but I'm not as skilled :) :)
