Check out http://www.cgmasters.net for environment and character modeling tutorials.

Run-through of the open source game Yo Frankie! This version of the game uses Blender's internal game engine.

Thanks to Benoit for all the development previous to the project which without I couldn't have convinced Ton to allow us to use Blender's game engine to salvage the last half of the project. The greatest success of the project is the impact its had, inspiring a surge of interest in and development of the BGE thanks to devs like Benoit, Brecht, and our very own Campbell who, it should be noted, no longer mocks the coolness of the BGE.

Download the game and all the production files at www.yofrankie.org.

  • Holy crap. People told me that the blender engine was good, but Jesus Christ it's amazing. I had figured it would be like a 3D equivalent of the Game Maker software, but it seems to me to be a comparable alternative to Unreal.

  • @ThomasGGebert fuck yeah it is

  • @ThomasGGebert Whell if u chose good graphics...and do good models+animation as well maybe be awesome game!

This game hasn't very hight graphics but it's enough good to become a game(but it's for babys!)!

  • dude! thats amazing! (downloaded the game)

can you make a tutorial on the enviroment and how to make them fly (the character)

i would really help me out :)

    *subscribe* :)

  • @iHurtKiDzz I've been using Blender for a few years now. I understand how to do most things in it. I am wanting to make a game but want to stay as far away from python or any coding as humanly possible. I just don't think I'm ready to learn that stuff at the moment. which is better in that regard?

  • It seems great, and definitely I'm choosing B.G.E. for my own game creation. But there's a thing I do not understand in B.G.E. Now, Yofrankie can be run out of the Blender, right? And, if for example I create a game in B.G.E, can I compile it source under windows, and then have something like a full game you can simply run by mygame.exe (for example) or I'll have to use something like Crystal Space, in order to do that?

  • @bnewton81 udk is very simple if your more on the graphic side of things blender very program heavy but is basiclly the same both are good given time

  • i can make a cube rotate

  • Are there any real limitations to bge? I know blender already and I really don't want to learn udk if I dont' have to.
