I wish the quality of this video was better!

Melissa got the award since she was snubbed from winning a Grammy for Don't Cry Out Loud which became a classic! The song was a departure from her heart and soul approach to her music. It was a great pop song that was a blessing and a curse for her. A very underated singer/songwriter.

That was truely a competitive moment in Grammy history! All great ladies!

@hairdisc Yeah, its a transfer from an old beta tape to VHS to a digital mini tape to MPEG... if I'd known back then how much fun it would be to see old recordings I'd have taken better care! Anyway, even though the Grammy voters do tend to reward for past performance, I think Melissa's song and performance were the best of the bunch -- though Gloria would have been a good choice too.

actually Melissa was a bit more than a won hit wonder. following hit singles:

1. Midnight Blue

2. Don't cry out loud

3. whenever I call you friend: she cowrote w/ kenny loggins. Kenny recordedw/ stevie nicks.

4. you should hear how she talks about you

5. through the eyes of love (Ice Castles) theme.

Note: Melissa was the first artist in the Academy awards history to have 2 of her songs nominated in the same year.

Laura Branigan was robbed!! I was a teen-ager then and remember what a HUGE

hit GLORIA was in 1982. I even bought the whole album, not just the "little"

record. I don't even remember Melissa Manchaser or her crappy song!!

RIP Laura Branigan. Erin Go Bragh!!

Good grief I forgot how much I loved Laura Branigan's voice. I actually became really depressed and felt like someone punched me in the gut when I heard she had passed away. Her physical self may be gone but her voice and music will live forever
