Agave Desmettiana Variegata is a easy care outdoor or indoor houseplant depending on where you live.

I was always in awe over agave I seen in books and magazine and honestly did not think I could grow them in our cold climate, but I was wrong.

So 2 years ago I found someone selling tiny little offsets online , and I was reluctant at first, but always love a challenge and I loved the look so much I went ahead and purchased.

I grow many agaves indoors in my basement, but I also transplanted some out in my greenhouse this Spring and they grew so beautifully, with no problems.

This variety of agave is considered a dwarf, but think the size is just right especially when growing indoors.

The leaves are bright green with yellow variegation along the margins. Spines are nonexistent along the margins, but does produce a sharp point at end of their leaves.

They produce offsets, and grow to be 2-3ft in size. Very sturdy plant but make sure you keep out of reach , as the leaves can be easily broken.

Hardy to 25 degrees so plant outdoors year around in zones 9-11 , Plant in a sun area, being a succulent plant it requires little water.

There is many agave's on the market , but this one keeps giving and giving and I love that about plants.

Propagation is easy and before long you will have many agave's to give, sell , wonderful gifts too.

In this video I will be transplanting and telling you alittle more about this special Agave.

  • So grateful for this video, I purchased this plant at Lowes on the discount rack a few weeks ago, really large and needed to be repotted. I got it for a steal of a deal and didn't know what it was, just that I had to have it. Thank you Diane, now I know I have a big beautiful Agave Desmettiana "Variegata"

  • @AWMsT wonderful , I know I use video a lot to find things out, glad it helped.. :) and also thanks for subscribing..

  • i have a blue agave i got it as a pup from my friend and it is quite large i keep it in my greenhouse all winter and outside in my front garden all summer in a pot i love it i actually have 6 i have kept all the babies since no one elese seems to want one lol they are very pretty i have another one im not sure of the name of it but it looks like the top of a pine apple and it is quite large also but hasent produced any pups yet

  • @grdndiva2001 , the blue agave sounds wonderful. I know once you have a few there is always plenty more coming your way in form of pups. I have lots of this variety now.. they are just beautiful when they grow large.. thanks for stopping by!

  • do you have problems with sun burning when u put them back outside after the winter? my biggest one always gets sunburned when i put it back on my deck in the spring. i try to slowly introduce it back into the sun through shading it but it still seems to happen. i have three different kinds of agave and love them all!

  • @swiperrt , I haven't grown them outside , just inside and in the greenhouse seem to do well, it sounds like it may just not like all that sun.. I have mine in a part sun area and does well so far..

  • whats the cost for a agave plant

  • @youmx5 , yes they are pointy.. some of my points have broken off. but I do love this plant alot.

  • I love my Agave desmettiana 'Variegata' also. But it's a killer. Those thorns at each tip are deadly.

  • @DebraLeeBaldwin , Hi Debra, fancy seeing you here..:) did not realize they bloom then die, that is a downside, :( good thing I have many more here. still love them all the same.. I guess maybe I will try and hold off or cut off the blooms, will that work?? really don't care so much I love their look just as they are..
