I remember the days of socket A. I only just this year disposed of mine, well, donated to a friend in which he replaced with a barton core Athlon 3300+.
Easily my fondest memories of computing.

@Noel127 I don't always, but it works out either way, you just have to avoid getting static in the first place! You can handle many electronics with not much harm, or I would have had problems a lot more frequently. I think it's over-stressed, however, I've mounted systems without thermal paste as well, it really depends if the old paste is working or not, judge temps by touch or by software

If it's a Sony Vaio with a desktop P4, WORRY BIG TIME about cooling, my mobo is apparently Fried. Oh, and when I picked up two Gateways using these mobos, it uses a Mobile CPU on a larger base for desktops, Very odd looking!

By the looks of it, it's a DDR motherboard

Ground your self is the first thing to do when handling a CPU or any mother board related work!

@RiKKuXd28: You didn't see the thermal pad on the heatsink? You don't use a thermal pad AND thermal paste. The combination just makes a big mess once the pad melts.
