Still hard at work, this Emsco unit built in 1944 has been pumping this well for 67 years. A 7,500 foot well @ 14 Strokes per minute, puts the torque stress well over the Emsco's gear box rating of 228,000# - "They don't make them like they used to"

  • 67 years wow that's a long time !!! how much oil does it make a day ???/

  • @gooselynn actually, the well was drilled in 1926 and then redrilled/deepend around 1940. the well is down to about 6 or 7 bbl per day now, too much water has come in to the well over the years.

  • @californiacrude

Sounds like our East Texas Field. What's the gravity?

  • @derekdz about 26

  • I just love that sound, thanks for the post From Earl

  • I think this is the Cherokee well in Long Beach, right CaliforniaCrude? Thanks for the post!

  • Used to have a few EMSCO pumps like that in the Rangely field ... just hearing the whine of the motor brought back memories.... I also miss the chug-chug-chug-whirrrrrr sound of the old pumps that had internal combustion engines. I'm amazed that what in Rangely amounted to a seemingly "shallow sized" pump such as the one in your video could handle a 7,000 ft deep well!

  • Is this well in Downtown Huntington Beach? Have you ever seen the big green oil pump on Edwards Hill, at the end of Ellis? That one seems to pump continuously, also the small oil pump in the plant nursery off Goldenwest between ellis and garfield.I remember being soo fascinated by oil wells as a kid, I miss the pumps that used to be on the beach below the cliffs north of the HB Pier.

  • older looking electric motor too.

  • this must be a well-taken well, that keeps producing crude for that long years.
