Eyewitness To Jesus (1998) 8 of 10

Have we discovered Gospel manuscript evidence dating within the eyewitness period of the events they describe? A controversial claim by one of the world's top authorities on ancient manuscripts, the late papyrologist, lecturer and director of the Institute for Basic Epistemological Research Dr. Carsten Peter Thiede (1952-2004) surveys the evidence in a variety of fields to support this claim however unwelcome it may be today in the world of biblical academia where such claims are almost taboo.

If Thiede is correct, this will not be the first time textbooks have to be rewritten to more closely corroborate the biblical record as illustrated most dramatically in the recent discovery of Hebrew inscriptions on clay pottery at Khirbet Qeiyafa which confirmed in January 2010 that sophisticated writing was widely practiced, allusions to Torah were already being made and a powerful monarchy existed in Israel as early as the 10th century BCE, the time period the bible says David lived. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/285265

Lots of faces have lots of egg on them right now over this. This isn't taking into account the new astonishing archaeological finds Eilat Mazar is unearthing in the Upper City further corroborating the biblical record in breath-taking detail (and now we see why those excruciating details were left in the bible) during this same time period exploding the hopes and dreams of the minimalists, mythologers and other garden variety hyper-critics.

This illustrates how the "scholarly" world was dead wrong on one of the most foundational assumptions taken for granted for so many decades concerning biblical text and history and shows how the bible was accurate all along and is very reliable in the face of all the critics. Romans 3.4 comes to mind. Such amazing claims would have been unthinkable to scholars just a couple of years ago - yes, the earth is indeed round. So the question is: could the case Dr. Thiede makes in this documentary be another upset of traditional academia at odds with scripture? Decide for yourself.
