My entry in Microsoft's Dream Build Play Warm Up XNA Contest. It's called "Joe's Fuel Harvest Service". The goal is to mine planetoids for fuel without digging too deep and collapsing the mineral deposits.

  • My original design was very different but ended up not working in the timeframe of the warm-up contest so I had to change the game in a rush. The original design was to have liquid flowing on the surface and you would dig trenches to make it flow to a collector. The digging mechanics was done but I would have needed another week the fluid stuff.

  • Your score is calculated by the amount of minerals(colored areas) that is exposed when the timer runs out. The growing black areas are where you overshot and dug too deep.

  • It is interesting, but it doesn't really look like a good game. It looks too repetitive.

  • Nice concept, but IMO the final objective doesn't make the mechanics justice. Maybe there's some other kind of game you can build based on this gameplay mechanic.
