Shell and China National Petroleum Corporation are developing a well manufacturing system that could unlock significant resources natural gas efficiently. This approach is similar to a factory. A central hub stores drilling fluids, pipes and other materials. Truck-mounted rigs carry out specific tasks.
The system is designed to drill and complete wells in a standardised, repeatable way, using advanced automation techniques. Automation will help to lower the cost of drilling and improve safety by keeping workers out of hazardous areas. It will also help to overcome the challenge of too few trained rig crews, which has been an obstacle in developing tight gas and coalbed methane reserves in recent years.

And if the science lets you down, do it on the cheap and put anyone who objects into prison, like you do in Ireland.

Very interesting video. Check out our channel if you like oil & gas videos.

What depth reservoir is this relevant for? The drilling rigs seem extremely light compared to what is typical, or maybe I'm just not familiar with most recent technology.
1:48 Even though the rigs are huge, I have a hard time imagining this depth being more than a 1-2 thousand feet.
