Yes, the Ford Tri-motor is capable of aerobatics at the hands of the right pilot anyway! Harold Johnson looped, spun and snap rolled Ford NC-9610, a 4-AT-B #53, in the 1930's. Johnson reportedly performed 17 consecutive loops during one demonstration. I found this video in our archives at HistoricAviation.com.

  • Long ago I knew a man named Troy Coback. Mr. Cobock told me he once had an air show and a pilot who stunted a trimotor ford.

Could this be the same airplane?

  • My guess is that this is the ship as I am not aware of anyone else performing this kind of act in a Ford tri-motor.

  • Thanks, we are presently rebuilding a Ford Tri-motor now and if all goes well we MAY do the routine again... but perhaps not too many times :)!

  • I don't have the specific date of this film, though it probably was at the 1938 National Air Races. He did perform his routine there.

  • I heard about him flying most of the length of the field inverted. Has anyone else heard of this?

  • What a Plane! .....MADE IN AMERICA...

  • Go to CR1- Software dot com to get yourself a high Quality FORD TRI-MOTOR to Fly in FSX NOW !!

  • Is this the same Harold Johnson who served as mayor of Moraine, OH., flew a Waco in the Snoopy and the Red Baron show at Kings Island, etc?

  • thats why a crash back in those days would kill everyone but the plane was still flyable haha.

  • @geherrick It might be done again at Oshkosh.

  • All Ford 4-AT models are approved for single pilot operations without a type rating (but you clearly have to have a mulit-engine rating). The slightly larger 5-AT models require a special type rating.

  • That's cool! Your gandfather was clearly a very, very good pilot!

  • Thats my Grandpa!

  • can you fly that with only 1 pilot in a 2 pilot cockpit?
