The new flow making its way to the ocean had reached the coastal plain and was only 0.8 miles from its destination. These clips show the destruction of a small vegetated area of small trees and underbrush. The encroaching lava was very fast and buried much of the vegetation before complete combustion had taken place. As a result, numerous jets of flaming gases can be seen breaking through the lava surface.

  • how long do those fires burn for?

  • @StickGuy0000000001 This was a small island of vegetation that had survived previous flows and it lasted only a couple of hours. Other larger areas will burn as long as hot lava makes contact with it. Most lava is now flowing over recent flows which have no vegetation.
