Blasting the suspended span (plus 1 1/2 panels of each of the cantilever sections) of the old bridge carrying Route 88 over the Mon in Pt. Marion, PA on 11-16-09. Note: there is some cussing at 0:16.
Video shot from the shore across the Cheat river. The new bridge is just behind the old bridge.
Because of the noise from the 3 local news helicopters, we did not here the warning siren in this location, so we had no idea the blast was coming. I was fortunate to be getting some test footage when the blast occurred
oh noes they gots the wrong bridge!

its kinda sad that these beautiful old spans are being destroyed often to be replaced by efficient but characterless steel and concrete spans

In Connellsville their was 7 bridges that I know of that crossed the yough including two in South Connellsville and one of them still being used. Their was one that ran through town also I remember how it ran overhead on Crawford Ave and RT 119, I wish I could find pictures of it, anyway great footage of the Bridge Demolition

It was for cars. As for keeping it open, it wasn't really a good investment to keep it. It was essentially under continuous repair to keep it open.

Pretty sure it was cars. Note the arch of the roadway. Train bridges are usually nearly flat.
