Back in 1979 BABE Productions produced concerts at the Coconut grove in Santa Cruz. One of the bands was The Straws featuring Willy Durbin on bass,a great musician & a great person to be around..He passed away when James was nine...I wanted to send this to James, but with all the media bliss going on, I don't know how to reach him..It would be cool if James sang this song and American Idol showed his Dad playing the bass on a video screen..It's a VHS tape so it's a little grainy....Song "When the Shot Rang Out" If American Idol would agree, I would like to see them give James a donation for a charity of his choice or whatever James wants to do...
I , Jonathan Neal, was the Executive Producer of BABE Productions and owned the rights to these concerts...

  • Wow! I kept thinking somebody must have a video of Willy playing bass for James to see. AWESOME!!! And is that Greg Robbins on guitar??? I still talk to him in San Antonio, TX. This is GREAT that you posted this I will make sure James sees it.

  • It makes my heart happy to know that there is a wonderful human being such as James in the world right now with us all.

Everything this young man says and sings is truly inspiring and touching.

I'm sure his dad is watching and is so very proud of his boy.

  • Great performance! Now that's music! The Durbin connection is a bonus. :D

  • Nice performance - like father, like son. I'm sure he's looking down on him with great pride. James is a great musician and a great person. As someone with Asperger's, his story was the most inspiring I've ever heard of anyone on the autism spectrum. James Durbin is my personal hero.

  • @riojon Hey Can you please share video that you have on youtube.

  • Fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing this. It warms my heart that James will be able to see his dad here. I realize I'm a total stranger, but James has touched SO many people and this puppy just made my day. :o) -Sandi
