My Grandfather was in the 1st marine division in 1943 when they attacked Tarawa. He received 2 purple hearts. I have Very detailed maps and pictures from this war. some rated pg, some rated R. Very bad stuff happened in those 76 hours, God bless those men.
if you got google earth take a look at the island. its pretty much hopeless, everybody on the whole island chain lives rite on that little spit of land.
