Just two days after receiving the OK to return home, residents effected by the Terrace Mountain Fire were once again told to evacuate as the fire which was 90% contained jumped the fire lines and aided by gusty winds became an inferno once again. This time the evacuees who had to take a scenic route to their evacuation center through Vernon and Lake Country, Kelowna and Mount Boucherie in West Kelowna. Being a long weekend the evacuees are out of luck for finding accommodations so there were cots ready for them.
We awoke Sunday August 2, too thick smoke in Kelowna along with a lot of ash on everything outside. The origins of the ash trees were clearly evident and once again the size of some of the debris is surprising.
The prospect of the fire jumping Okanagan Lake is real creating the worst situation imaginable.

  • Terrible. And just to think that many fires may be preventable, too... It's quite sad, you know? That said, it's also quite a job to strike a balance with Mother Nature, huh?

  • we have fires every year so what?

  • No, it was caused by a lightening storm that we had.

  • hey how hot is it down there? Could it be possible that it was a man made fire?? A conspiracy
