..at the time more famous than he was. It shows the susceptibility of the general public to be brainwashed by media.Kerry Katona is a joke ; i feel sorry for her like i would for anyone with similar problems but aside from having no discernible talent, she is a neurotic who is too thick to understand her own neurosis, which is a shame cos she cant help herself, but this provides the public with endless entertainment ! ; what does THAT say about our 'society' ?
@Glenn1967ful To me, it beggars belief the public fascination with both Katie and Kerry, in spite of them being nice enough people ; it's madness. I also think the same of the 'Beckhams' ; Beckham getting 'Lifetime Achievement' award at Sports P.O.T.Y. ; for WHAT for Christ's sake ??. The level of his fame has been merely invented by the media with ridiculous wealth going with it. He would never, in this world or the next, have gained so much attention if not for marrying a pop star who was....
I think ITV2 has hit rock bottom for cheap, landfill site television with these Kerry Katona and Katie Price shows. While I was enjoying myself watching old BBC comedies on Channel Five tonight from 30 years ago, who will remember Kerry Katona in 30 years time? In fact I can imagine ITV1 and ITV2 being her channels of choice.
@Glenn1967ful Well,i suppose it's not only the 'North' as its everywhere ; where i was brought up in South Wales it's the same in the more working class areas, as less intelligent folk are more easily pleased aren't they ? I think the BBC always employed people who were more cultured and artistic to actually MAKE their shows e.g. David Attenborough, originally a producer and then in charge of BBC 2 when it was new and accordingly they had presenters like Tony Hart ; ITV just had businessmen
Living in the North the default channel for many people still is ITV1. I really don't see what people see in a bunch of Z list celebs in a fake jungle or badly acted dross like Benidorm. However, you mention something you watched on BBC Four and you get blank looks. Also their daytime shows like This Morning are just a waste of electricity with Phil Schofield being paid millions to talk about Coronation St and Emmerdale.
....Rule Brittainia, with a Welshman,Scottsman,Irish & English ; and THAT was the joke ! They had one or two good sitcoms like On The Buses and Rising Damp and that was it. BBC also had cultural documentaries and all the best Sport like Cricket and Tennis as well as football. What did ITV's version of Grandstand, World Of Sport have ? Wrestling, Gliding, Tiddlywinks ; any odd shit as gimmicks
@Glenn1967ful Thing about ITV is that they produced shows for the lowest common denominator of taste ; t.v. mostly for dumb people of the working class masses ; maybe 'working classes' is wrong cos i'm working class and proud of it but intellectually i mean. So they were always full of naff game shows, quiz shows and crap comedies where the BBC always had the best e.g. Steptoe, Porridge, Dads Army, Likely Lads, Python, Fawlty Towers, Some Mothers etc etc .What did we get from ITV ? Selwyn Froggit
Or some duff variety knees up with Chas and Dave one year that was like watching paint dry. Morecambe and Wise became hopeless when they went to ITV and never recovered. However, the old ITV was class compared with the chav rubbish they churn out now, at least we still had shows like World in Action and Survival. Now it's Paris Hilton's Best Friend Forever.
@Glenn1967ful Yeah, always a ancient Bond film at least fifteen years old as their main Xmas day film !! BBC always had much less money but put it ALL into quality production values ; ITV ruined everyone they poached from BBC ; M & W, Mike Yarwood, Bruce Forsyth with bloody 'Bruce's Big Night' in 1978
Last night the same tired out clips on You've Been Framed, cheapo All Star Family Fortunes, a depressing episode of Porot, crummy old Corrie on for an hour and a boring hour long Emmerdale. No wonder BBC One thrashes ITV every Christmas Day, at least they try to show something interesting. Twas always the case though, BBC 1 would have Morecambe and Wise, ITV would be showing some rubbish no one would want to watch.
