Brute Force.

I've never met anyone that has played Brute Force. Everyone says they have heard about it at some point, then I mention i'm not referring to the one released for X-Box a few years ago. Hardly any units were made, less were sold and even fewer made money.

A classic case of a book being judged by it's cover.

Brute Force is not a very good game. It's amateurish at best and frustrating at worst. It's plagued by bad design decisions, quirky bugs and a low budget.. but, it has something a lot of games miss. It has heart.

Clearly the designers put a great deal of time and effort into developing this game, it is unique to itself. An isometric action game where you can charge your attacks and jumps that has an emphasis on dodges and using the weapons lying all over the stages as effectively as possible.

But, we don't play this game for the intense strategy or fair challenge, we play it because it is fun.

There's a lot of things wrong with this game, but somehow these things cancel each other out someway or another and combine to form a ball of pure fun. Everytime I play in a group there's guaranteed something awesome will happen, the game is just full of great moments. Catching a molotov cocktail thrown at you in mid air and sending it right back. Hitting an orange that was thrown at you with your pipe and killing the guy that threw it with a line drive. Manhandling your friends. Adding a rapid fire rocket launcher attachment to your Tek-9 you found when you broke open a potted plant with an errant time bomb.

By all means, it should be one of the worst games ever made, but somehow it uses it's flaws to it's advantage and manages to become something magical in the process.

An amazingly fun game.

Special thanks to my players 2 and 3, Mowtendoo, and KuD.

  • If you don't mind me asking, who is Susan, and do you still love her?

  • I didn't make this game, honestly.

  • 2:19 Wow! I've never seen a double team move (even if an involuntary one) in a beat'em-up before! ^^

  • Check out the Simpsons arcade game, or if you're adventurous, Nightmare Circus.

  • Reminds me of Pit Fighter turned into a scrolling beat-em-up.

  • Check out a game called "Guardians of the Hood". It actually came out before Pit Fighter.

  • Woah Buzz looks so tough in his little white shorts and bobby socks.

  • Guys, don't pay for dvd's from vultures or even well meaning game enthusiasts.

I set up a torrent on Demonoid (Deepgamers Mame)that has every possible game and thing for Mame, and if you can't get it there then it's on the internet somewhere!

It's 300 gigs all together so make some space!

  • This thing's like Final Fight on Steroids. XD

  • Man, those sweet moves that Krush does at 0:51 are hilarious, hahaha. This game takes me back!

  • If I understood this game right: Buzz (guy in blue shirt) is missing his pants, and now they are turning the city upside down to find them?!

  • @BigBangBlitz you're the man BigBangBlitz!

  • this music really makes me think of the music from the Power Rangers the Movie game on Genesis

  • But it does look pretty unique and fun

  • This is like yuppie final fight

  • @cheesewilly i've been called a jerk and an asshole before but that's just because other people hate it when they're wrong. maybe if you bought some more neurons and got brain transplant you would have known that the sounds was 80s rock/techno along the lines of "a split second".

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork Has anyone ever told you that you come off as a total cunt?

  • @Azure701 lofl, so do those mma guys that beat the snot out of people.

  • @BigBangBlitz Do you have an abridged version which only contains games worth playing? I remember that I used to have the MAME emulator on a dvd somewhere, until I lost it. One of the roms was cassette tape hockey. My brother and I literally waited about 20 minutes waiting for it to "load," even with the speed increased, only to enter a game with horrible controls, clunky design and a lack of two-player mode.

I doubt I'd want to relive the experience.

  • @BigBangBlitz

That's a bold statement considering you're looking at violating about 3,800 or more copyrights in one way or another...just sayin'- I wouldn't advertise bro...

  • I need to find this, Looks hilarious chucking guys into windows and all that. Amazingly funny!
