Senator Jon Kyl objected on behalf of Republicans to considering extending unemployment benefits for Americans who need it now. Speaking on the Senate floor on 10/8/2009, Kyl said, "I have no doubt that at the appropriate time well be able to work out some kind of agreement. But our side is going to need some time to look at it. We'll need some Republican ideas or amendments as well and need a CBO score. So at this time I'll have to - on behalf of members on our side - impose an objection."

  • Well, that was certainly in context...

    Silly Republicans want to actually PAY for the benefits. Why is that so horrible? If they'd be such a great stimulus to the economy, why are Dems unwilling to use already-budgeted and unspent stimulus money to cover even part of the expense?
