Hi Jack, I have Mac 09 and Photoshop Elements 8, I love your tutorial, I will cancel Lynda.com your tutorial is better. I did everything, I have the layer mask under the Photo Effects but has a little lock on the left side how can I unlock that ?

Worked like a charm on my Mac! I was a bit intimidated at first when I was reading the instructions from the same website but your step by step guidance made it a snap. Thanks so much.

@42technoman Elements is a nice little program although in comparison to the competitors at least under Windows, they don't offer as many features. But they are Adobe and their name sells their products. I just think they have held back the pen tool and paths too long.
I use Mac but I also run Windows. For serious editing I use Windows programs because I can afford to pay my bills.
Xara is a great program. I use CorelDRAW a lot too. I am a free-lance graphic artist by trade. Always learning.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 for Mac and it works just as described. I don't use layer masks all the time but this is far easier than faking a layer mask with an adjustment layer. Thank you.

@courag1 Yes and now a layer mask comes with Elements 9 and you now have the ability to minimize the program on the Mac. Thanks for the comment.

I also am using windows xp and cant have tried several times using each step to download the mask, but it isnt working..there is a second option that tells you to go to "\Locale\en_US\MediaDatabase.db3 "
which I did..I did go to locale\en_us\ but there is no mediadatabase.db3 optionin my elemtnts..any idea of what to try next

@tammyandbarry Using Windows XP you have to show hidden folders and then you will find the database files. Best of luck and thanks for the comments.
