Lt. Governor Walter Dalton speaks at the rededication of the Haynes Memorial Clock Tower on Friday, October 8, in Cliffside. In this video, Dalton gives a short speech about his childhood memories of Cliffside and the vision and character of his great-grandfather, R. R. Haynes. During this time, Dalton also unveils a plaque honoring R. R. Haynes as the founder of Cliffside and identifying this location as the site of his home.

The village of Cliffside was founded by R. R. Haynes in 1902. The original clock tower was atop the Memorial Building constructed in downtown Cliffside in 1920. After this building was demolished in the 1970's, the clock tower portion was reconstructed on the site of the R. R. Haynes homeplace which had also been demolished in the 1970's. The clock mechanical mechanism has recently been repaired and restored.
