Carl Brun, Ph.D. professor and chair of the social work department at Wright State University introduces us to the various resources, requirements and initiatives that involve Wright State social work students.

Brun says Wright State social work students pass the licensure exam at a rate of 82% (greater than the national average) and get hired at a rate of 93%. Brun and others credit these results to the program, which requires students to participate in a multitude of hands-on, practical experiences including observation classes, service learning opportunities and a senior practicum that requires the student to work 425 hours in the community.

Students and professors in the program discuss the value of one particular service learning opportunity, their activity for Ohio Makes a Difference Day. For years students have chosen to gather food and hygiene products at a local grocery and donate them to a neighborhood school in need. In 2010 the effort garnered approximately $30,000 in goods.
