What is anti-Semitism today, two generations after the Holocaust? In his continuing exploration of modern Israeli life, director Yoav Shamir (Checkpoints, Flipping Out) travels the world in search of the most modern manifestations of the oldest hatred", and comes up with some startling answers.
In this irreverent quest, he follows American Jewish leaders to the capitals of Europe, as they warn government officials of the growing threat of anti-Semitism, and he tacks on to a class of Israeli high school students on a pilgrimage to Auschwitz.
Opinions often differ and tempers sometimes flare, but in Defamation we find that one thing is certain - only by understanding their response to anti-Semitism can we really appreciate how Jews today, and especially modern Israelis, respond to the world around them, in New York and in Moscow, in Gaza and Tel Aviv.

Ich denke, ich kann Yoav Shamir beruhigen. Der Antisemitismus hat für den Moment ein stabiles Plateau erreicht. Falls sich allerdings heute noch eher nebulöse Vermutungen bewahrheiten sollten, könnte er dramatisch zunehmen.

Welcher denkende Mensch kann das wünschen? Daher sind Ausschwitzbesuche lächerlich. Wichtiger ist, Gerüchten nachzugehen, sie ggf. zu verifizieren und die Schuldigen zu benennen. Das wäre DER Schritt. Wer will schon hassen?

All racism is ignorant and wrong, and genocide which has been and still is carried out around the world is horrifying! I am shocked reading some of these posts that disgsuting attitutes expressed here still exsist. If only people spent the energy they put into hating eachother into understanding and respecting eachother! No religious group is "bad"! Unlike those spreading hatred, racism and fear. Many of these posts prove that anti-semetism and racism ARE still very real problems in our society.
