How To Use Photoshop For Easy Skin Tone Correction Tutorial By Sean Armenta

In this episode I demonstrate how to do a quick and easy skin tone correction using a curves adjustment layer. Often times we run into pesky situations where we have to retouch things like visible tan lines or other skin discoloration issues. Sometimes no matter how much prep work we do in the capture stage, we always have to do a final tweak in post. Well here's a perfectly simple little operation that will work for those instances.

 okay guys here is the procedure for the CS3 people. 

1. quit photoshop CS3.
2. purchase and install photoshop CS5
3. follow along with the above tutorial. 

LOL just kidding.

1. add curves adjustment layer. curves dialog will pop up. 
2. double click the highlight eyedropper and the color selector will pop up. 
3. click on the target color. click okay on color window. click okay to set as new defaults.
4. click on the area of the image you want to CHANGE the color. the entire image should change to that color. 
5. invert the mask by hitting CTRL or CMD "I". 
6. paint with a white brush.
7. let me know if that works.

Hello Sean! Thanks for another great tutorial! I have Photoshop CS3 and for some reason when I try to make all the entire adjustment layer active I just can not click on icon next to mask :(

Is there any other way to make it active?

@angelamengoa hmm.. no, you should still be able to. the layers palette hasn't changed much since version 7. the mask is just an attachment to the adjustment layer. if you're on CS3, on the bottom of your layers palette, click on the icon that sort of looks like a ying yang, and that will open up a pull down menu that will allow you to add an adjustment layer, so if you choose curves, a new layer should show with 2 icons separated by a chain. click on the left icon

hey Sean, thanks you are my hero but this time you did go a little fast. when you select the curves layer, you click on the highlight button and then do you just sample the target color or are you sampling more?

@mvandenwauver you need to double click on the highlight eyedropper in the curves dialog to bring up the color picker window. then you simply click on the target color, click okay, and click yes when asked if you want to set the color as defaults

Sean this is the best video I have seen... I am using CS5 but cannot get it to work. When I click on the Curves adjustment layer, in the layers panel I see a small graph with a link to the right and then a white background to the right of that. The lower eye dropper in the adjustment panel comes up as white point... It does not allow me specify a colour. Can you help?
