@seamie20 the only reason the funds weren't there was because the Liberals wouldn't pass the budget. That's it. Plain and simple.

A coup d'etat,pure and simple.
Whitlam was the elected representative of the Australian party and he dared to chart a new course for Australia-independent of the US and UK.
That was one of his big mistakes since Australia is the lap dog of the US.
Whitlam was exposing the US/Aussie Intel set-up and wanted to dismantle it.
That could not happen.
So, he was ousted by his "buddy" Kerr and Fraser was made PM.
The election afterward was a fait accompli.
That's a how to guide to coups.

a truly great man, a great vissionary who brought so much to this country and was turfed out on his arse because he opposed certain people and their views. The disaster of the malcolm fraser regime should have reminded people how bad the libs are at running government.

The best Australian telemovie of all time!
You cannot govern without funds , people. The facts are simple. Lose the emotion and study the the decade. Fraser and Kerr were well in their right to do what they did. The question is whether or not they should have brough it on ...... and that opens the legal questions which, quite simply happen to allow it. I've never voted labor in my life but Whitlam was and is a brilliant man. The sadness is that his minister's were tragic ... :(

Question: If Whitlam was such a great leader, why did the Australian people not return him to office, and instead elect Malcolm Fraser?
