it's really sad that this happened, especially this time of year. My prayers go out to japan and all of the people associated with this terrible catastrophe. Let's hope this does not become a greater tragedy with the possibility of that nuclear plant melting down.

As big as Easrth is, we're lucky this thrust quake was only 12 feet. The 9.2 quake in Anchorage 1964 was 25 feet thrust and did less damage worldwide then this one. this size quake hits regionally once in 600-1200 years according to the news. 12 feet would hardly be detectable by the naked eye even from low orbital space without the aid of a telescope one would think. Imagine if an "Atlanta" size quake happened every few decades..regardless of location we're talkiing mile high wave globally.

@killerclown789 The sad thing is to qualify your reply as truth you would not only have to have omniscience (be God) but you'd also have to be able to prove that prayer doesn't do anything apart from having that knowledge. But I'm not going to argue with you about this because in the end, it doesn't matter what I tell you you're going to believe what you want to and that's your business. But I feel that you have good reason to believe what you do. I have good reason to believe as well.

Sometimes we need something exhilarating like this to happen to our world. It keeps us on my toes.. preparing for other natural events. Everything is mutual. I was really distracted by this tragic event. but i learned that i am very fortunate to be in california at the time.
