Manchester has an extensive interconnection of canals and waterways built at the height of its prosperity. Today all of the industry which made this region great has gone leaving behind a fascinating legacy of old mills, grandiose buildings and monuments. Some of these buildings have been restored as office space or inner city apartments. This video is a walk from central Manchester following the route of the Rochdale canal from the Bridgewater basin. Navigable for most part along the tow path however some places are under repair which means in some cases you have to walk up the parallel streets. Canal street, leading to the "village" is a well known "gay" centre and even today cross-dressers were openly walking up and down this area! As the canal heads out from the city and towards Rochdale the walk returns through the Ancoats district and down through Shudehill back to Victoria station.
clearly lots of development work is being undertaken, but as this video shows some of the areas of the city are very "wild"

  • Oh .... did you have the TZ7 long before it failed? ... I'm liking it alot ... hope it lasts awhile!

  • @mishamittens Its just over 18 months old, it is the plastic zoom lever which has broken inside the camera. I have bought a faulty camera to rob the parts from it as it was cheaper than the price quoted from Panasonic.

  • Love it.

Is the TZ10 the same as the TZ7 in the U.S. and are they the same is the ZS10 and 7 (confused)

  • @mishamittens Hi Mona, no the TZ10 replaced the TZ7 ( its the ZS7 in the States) It is similar with 16x zoom and manual exposure control and geo-tagging. My TZ7 failed with the zoom switch not working so i bought the tZ10 secondhand but it appears brand new. Panasonic have released 2 more updates the TZ18 and the TZ20. The TZ20 offers a new sensor, more pixels and 3D capability. I don't need those options. Thanks for viewing.

  • im about to do something i never thought i would ever do ..... yes im jumping ship to Fuji and treating myself to the new F550exr.

    anyone want a mint condition TZ10 ?

  • @mrrandom177 The only thing that holds me back from this and the new TZ20 is the pixel density on such small sensors. The exr uses pixel grouping to achieve better lo light. I'm off to the NEC show 9th March so I want to take a SDHC card and see if i can get some sample images/video from both cameras. What are you finding wrong with the TZ10? maybe the video is a little noisy.

  • fantastic!

    thank you sir!

  • @ghough12 ... I cannot do any home repairs so I'll be gentle and hope to get 18 months out of mine :-)

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT!!

  • A great collection of photos showing the changing face of Manchester but I'm glad that a lot of the old architecture is still intact.

  • they are pretty damned fine. the main reason im going for the fuji is the 1080 video capabilities which will bring it into line with my other equipment. also Fuji's claims that the 550 is excellent for low light shooting. im not that naive to believe advertising speak after all isnt that what al manufacturers say when they are about to release a new camera LOL but fuji do seem to be making a lot of the 550's low light capabilities.

  • @ghough12 TBH, Graham, for the most i cant fault the TZ10. as you demonstrate here its a very capable compact. we know these compacts are not the best in low light situations, but for what they are
