  • you can notice that immediately after he says 'fire'. Exactly 8 seconds later you can hear the sound of the engine.

    Speed of sound in Day Utah Air at 38 C , 100.4 F = 354.6 m/sec

    Distance = 2840 m , 2.84 kms Is the distance the camera man is away form the rocket. ;)

  • What are they? about 3 million horsepower each ?

  • This is at Aerojet in Sacramento isn't it? You can hear the tests from miles away. The smoke plume is quite mighty even from a distance. I haven't seen a SRB test, but I've heard or seen the smoke many times.

  • I never knew they could fire these things in any other position than upright...
