1994. I have included Dolly's legendary monologue preceding the song as I am obsessed with Carol's delivery :)

Jerry Herman wrote this song out of town especially for her - something he normally didn't do.

She wasn't in her prime, but in many ways the show worked better with her age. Perhaps a little more desperation and urgency to "rejoin the human race."

SIDE NOTE: Carol has a "Bible" which has every move in the show in it---it's amazing to look at---moves, character thoughts, etc. I read it during rehearsals,but never asked her who put it together for her and when.
