@vensub: I m not very sure about this.. But if I remember my music classes from looong back, I think Anupallavi is an optional part of the song. U can directly have a saranam if you want.. Carnatic music experts, dont hate me if I m wrong.. :)

Usually the Charanam is the 3rd stanza. However, some songs have no Anu Pallavi, and the Charanam is then, the second and is called a Samashti charanam.
Anu Pallavi is usually shorter than the Charanam . The last two lines of the Charanam often have the same tune (or similar) like the anupallavi.
However, many film songs have no Anu Pallavi and just two or more Charanams that are of the same length and tune.
