  • How did the seal get trapped in the first place?

  • Thanks for the question.

The seal managed to enter the water inlet due to the grill on the seaward end having some damage. This grill normally prevents larger objects (including seals) from entering. Due to the flow of water coming in, the seal was unable to swim back out again. This inlet facility cannot be shut down temporarily. The grill is still not fixed so this could happen again as the reactor is only shut down every couple of years for maintenance, due agin later this year I believe.

  • Hi, took a total of three days to get the equipment together, lower the platform into the tank, let the seal get used to using it .... and two attempts to net it once it was hauled out. Cheers. Tony. BDMLR.

  • Hi, i was one of the team from dungeness power station that spent the time to get the seal free. Myself James Allam and my cousin Louis Leedham was working on the drum screens when we noticed the seal in the ponds. We spent all of our time dedicated to helping the seal - the full 3 days, we didnt even go home for a break. When it was finally lifted out in the scaffold platform and we had to get it into the box it wasnt pleased at all, in fact it went for my cousin Louis in a panic.

  • nice to see people care

  • Good to see a happy ending. How long did the rescue take?
