Just a quick video about mining in FFXIV with some commentary.

Also, I got a second HDD so I am able to record HD videos without any decrease in performance.

  • Whats your comp specc?

  • @Mmxsc Corsair Dominator 6GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM, Core i7-930 @2.8Ghz (aka not OCed), 1GB HIS Radeon 5870, 1TB 7200 RPM Caviar Black WD HDD + 500 GB 7200 RPM Caviar Black WD HDD.

I am considering getting an SSD or a third HDD to run in RAID 0 with one of my drives. My cooling is a Corsair H50, which I'm not super satisfied with, but it is a bit smaller than some cooling options.

  • @lufia22 Ah i got the same specs just different manifactures

you playing the beta at max GFX?

  • @Mmxsc Near max. I use 1920x1200 (hence why the screen was cut off), texture on high, shadows on highest, filtering on highest, AA on 4x, buffer on resolution, no depth of field and no ambient occlusion.

Ambient Occlusion with my graphics card not only severely decreases performance, but it has a glitchy "shadow line" that extends from the top left-hand corner of the screen. I haven't actually tried depth of field, but I don't really have a desire to turn it on.

  • @lufia22 ok good to know, i gutt about 4600 points on high on the benchmark test i guess you got the same :)

  • Yeah, I typically range between 4600-4700. Highest that I remember was ~4750.

I get 60 FPS out in the field. 30-50 FPS around aetheryte crystals (depends on how many people are there). 25-35 FPS in outdoor town areas. Hopefully performance, especially in towns, is improved. I'm not sure what's causing the huge drop, as towns, especially Ul'Dah, don't seem much more graphically impressive. My guess is the how the game loads all the NPCs. It seems character models really affect FPS.
