Update: The video card was indeed fried. I plunked down $110 CAD to get it fixed and got a refurbished console. Hopefully this one will hold out.

I ask YouTube and the internet community as a whole this question: What the hell do I do in my situation?

The story so far:

So, like the insomniac I am I was up around 2:00am last night (February 26th, 2008) hoping to try out some of those XNA game demos from GDC 2008. I fire up my good 'ol 360 to find it functioning just fine as usual (despite the broken tilt sensor; the console doesn't know when it's being placed vertically or horizontally). After a while though, things got screwy. The dashboard became a wonky green colour all over the place (i.e. the guide and in random spots in the dash). Okay, no big deal. I'll just restart it and it'll be fine. Such is not the case. Restarting it came to no avail as there was no picture on screen. Two more restarts also came with the same futile result. A helpful forum-goer on xbox.com suggested I try booting without the HDD. Eureka! That worked out. I tried that twice more to see if it wasn't just a fluke. Now I tried a reboot with the HDD attached once more. Success! Again, two more tries with the HDD proved successful. It was time to call it a night... 4:30pm, I tried playing Halo 3. Everything was functioning normally, but as I tried playing the campaign a family member required some help... *click* Off went the 360. After that was done, I came back and loaded up Halo 3 again. This time, the title screen went that screwy green colour once more. Now, what will happen to my 360? Find out in the video...

  • if your were to try one of these with a hdmi cable would it work?

  • Mine was a launch day model. The 20 gig SKU didn't feature HDMI ports until 2007.

  • will a different av cable work?

  • No, it's in the description. The video card was the source of the problem.
