The Adoption Council of Ontario (ACO) would like to introduce you to our newly formed Youth Network. Thirteen teenagers and young people met to create "Our Voices Matter," a group that will help to educate adults, advocate for other youth, and provide peer-to-peer support. As the youth shared stories with each other, they realized that out of 11 youth who were adopted from foster care between the ages of five and 12, they had collectively experienced more than 60 family moves before becoming part of their forever family through adoption.
The ACO worked on this project with the Adoption Council of Canada and the NACAC Community Champions Network, funded by Jockey Being Family. This pilot training is part of a larger national initiative to create Youth Speak Out teams to speak to adults in every province.
We would like to thank the Circle for Children Foundation, the Dave Thomas Foundation, the Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth (Ontario), the Adoption Council of Canada, Jockey Being Family and the North American Council on Adoptable Children for their support on this project.
