(1972) Based on a short story by William Faulkner. In depression-era Mississippi, a reclusive watchman finds a homeless pregnant woman near the mill he's tending, and is determined to nurse her back to health.

Though not a feel-good movie, "Tomorrow" is one of the best American films. Duvall cites it as his favorite role, and many Faulkner fans consider this the most faithful dramatization of his work.

@BlaggerDagger The short story "Tomorrow" is included in the collection titled "Knight's Gambit". It was published in 1949, so the setting is obviously around that time or earlier.

The sympathy in his face as he LISTENS, and then she falls asleep, so vulnerable, but enduring best she can, after trusting her heart to him......beautiful. You see that look, from someone who himself has suffered, lost, and endured, and you know you've found Understanding. Even the sweetness of this life is hard ("Hard candy!"). But that helps it endure, too. All the more sweet for being so rare.....
