"Fireball", an education owl rehabbed and cared for by The American Wildlife Refuge (http://awrefuge.net/), visits Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Raleigh, NC, USA. This is the noise that a screech owl makes -- they don't actually "screech" or "hoot"-- and, he is fully grown. This is as big as a screech owl gets!

    That's called a nictitating membrane, and it protects his eyes and lets him blink without closing the eyelids all the way. You don't really see them in mammals- mostly animals like birds and reptiles :3
