Watch as John Edwards machines valve pockets with a home-made tool made from an exhaust valve. These are the pistons out of his Fiat 850 Sedan race car. Costa Mesa R&D Automotive Machine (949) 631-6376

  • John, I like how you attached an insert to a valve. Very smart. I can see that this was done in Z-axis but what I can't see is if this was done manually or not. Were you turning the dials yourself?

  • Great idea, John. What keeps the insert from digging in and rotating on the screw and possibly gouging the piston? Is it merely the friction of the insert edges on the valve face as clamped by the one screw? Thanks for sharing these neat tricks!

  • @crombieposterboy - No, I'm only removing .020", The crown thickness determines just how much you can remove.
