Camping in the Cameron Highlands

As you'll see I wasn't exactly doing a Ray Mear's as I had all mod-con's. But it was nevertheless a very picturesque spot, which when my last neighbour packed-up and went, left me totally alone with the trees and birds for a few days. And the best bit was it didn't cost me a brass-cent because nobody came round to collect my campsite fee ...

It was cool up there and dropped below 10 degrees at night, but was a refreshing change from the tropical heat of the lowlands. As these things go though, I decided to wash a few clothes before heading back down and right at the moment of putting the first peg in place, so too did the rain begin. A few sparse drops to begin with, but after 10 minutes had turned into a full-on downpour. No worries, though as the nearby hut that served as mosque for the devout who couldn't go prayerless even while at camp was pressed into service as my clothes-drier by using the fan to good effect. My 'long's' were dry ready for my ride back to Penang first thing.

And before closing here, will say a few words about the ride back (the highway part of which, can be seen here on u-tube too) in that I'd forgotten how warm it could get down near sea-level in the tropics and was soon cooking in my long sleeved clothing again. But the ride through and down from the remainder of the Cameron Highlands was truly wonderful. Motorcycling at it's very best through beautiful temperate and further down, tropical rain-forests. I passed Pines, Bamboos, Teak-trees and many other numerous and unidentified species of trees, creepers and undergrowth ... all densely verdant and covering every patch of ground in varying shades of green. This was an Oh be Joyful ride in heaven ...
