Asimo walking up and down the stairs represent the ebb and flow of development of humanity and technology. Asimo also embodies humanity itself (taking the shape of a humanoid), as well as technological advancement (robotics are extremely complex and is a very current field of study).

The development of humanity was limited by monarchy and feudalism, additionally, technological advancement also suffered from lack of funding. The focus of the old governing bodies was to retain and expand power, not social and technological advancement.
