Savonius wind turbine made from 6mm plywood and 100mm diameter house guttering
I used aluminium rod and nuts and skateboard bearings 608's.
The pump is a closed impeller type that was made from Perspex (Acrylic) sheet and tube(for the vanes) and glued together with Tensol12.
The head of water is not huge, but it fun making it!
The plan next is to somehow apply a diaphragm pump.
If a power drill is attached to the pump it is awesome.

  • How high can this pump water? Ie; from a 10 foot deep well to a tank located 6 foot off the ground...?

  • @perryemmanuel This was just an experimental project, the rpm needs to be high, for your application i would use a diaphragm pump.

  • I think the blades in your water pump are backwards.

  • The blades should be backward swept, both pump and impeller are going anticlockwise. When the video zooms in it looks like the pump is going clockwise, which is is not, something to do with the fps of the camera, i suppose?

  • good job! I was thinking of doing a vawt-powered pond pump and envisaged something almost exactly like this! the perspex end plates on the pump are a great idea. Have you tested how high a head the pump can lift?
