Tutorial: 5 Do's & Don'ts of Makeup

These are 5 Do's and Don'ts of makeup. You may agree or disagree with this video -- they are by no means THE top 5. I don't even think they're MY top 5, but they're the ones I could think of off the top of my head and are definitely important points to take into consideration :) They are presented in no particular order.

If you have any suggestions or things to add to the discussion, please comment. I'm sure I've forgotten some things and left other things out. Thanks for your participation!

DO NOT:
1. share cosmetics or brushes
2. use products past shelf life
3. pump the mascara wand in the tube
4. use products for things other than their intended purpose
5. purchase expensive, high-end cosmetics under the impression of a better or more effective product

DO:
1. wash brushes regularly
2. take good care of your skin before application and after removal
3. learn what works for your face/skin/eye type and what doesn't
4. go into store and try products before buying
5. experiment and be creative :)

Thanks so much! I didn't know that you had to throw out mascara after a certain specific date :) What is the shelf life for eyeliner?

@HappyNissa It can vary depending on the type of eyeliner! For example, liquid and cream eyeliners will tend to have a shorter shelf life. Just make sure you check the symbol on the packaging! :)

Apparently not all of them have the expiration date printed on the label :( But the box it came in should have that image with the jar on it somewhere!

@Lysierox... I totally agree, i think you should replace mascera less frequently than other products they only put short shelf lifes on prouducts for you to buy more faster

I just want to say that most of the "shelf lives" of beauty products are overstated, and it is not the end of the world to use them a month past their "life".

Makeup companies do this to get you to buy more products.

But I am not saying you shouldn't replace your products, because you most definitely should.

if anyone is looking for good drugstore brands, i totally would recommend L.A. Colors, which you can get at Dollar General. i don't think any of their products cost more than $2-3. They have a decent color range and the products go on and stay on well, but are also easy to remove. i also love the Hard Candy brand at Walmart. it's a bit more expensive, prices ranging $3-8 for most products. they have a TON of colors and the quality is fantastic. you can get a trial kit with 5-6 items for about $8
