Well most modern people us shorten words for guns instead of saying automatic-kalashnjkov-1947 they say ak-47 or ak.instead of saying model-16 carbine they say m-16.get with the present.

It's just s short version, and in this case, it fits with how the song is laid out. Of course "AK" makes sense. In the context its being used, it's not like people are going to think about Alaska.
