This movie really isn't scary, sad and beautiful is more like it, but the music does bring out the horror in it though.

@CASAHOFBRAU I think the most telling thing about Margaret's mania is that she liked it when Ralph "took her" ("And I liked it...I LIKED IT!"). Some would call this marital rape which really intensifies things. I suspect Margaret was religious before but couldn't accept her own sexuality, and it made things worse when Ralph (according to this film) left with another woman. No wonder she'd consider the TK child they conceived to be a witch.

@MyScreamsKill Oh yes indeed...when I first saw her there, I just had a bad feeling that something was going to make my heart jump...O_=
The candle scene makes worry about the mother. Not for Carrie but because Margaret White has become so unhinged that she's almost wrecked her own home, even partially tearing down her painting of the last supper...as if in despair she raged against G-d. Then as she calmed she lit candles--the two on the bed seems to refer to her and her husband--but her fanaticism has become true madness.

@phanface I think you're right about the candles on the bed. Margaret White's estranged husband is introduced after she accuses Carrie of being a witch on the night of the thunderstorm. "I'm goin', Momma. And you can't stop me. And I don't wanna talk about it anymore."
